I work as a Surtitler at The Royal Opera, Covent Garden, translating, editing and cueing English translations of opera texts which are projected on a screen above the stage.

In a freelance capacity, I write surtitles for other opera companies, and supply subtitles for operas and concerts on television, video and DVD. I have also provided complete English translations of opera libretti for CD.

I give talks on various operatic and musical subjects, including subtitling and surtitling. I write opera synopses, programme notes for concerts, CD notes, and articles on musical topics of particular interest to me.

In my ‘spare’ time, I play the bassoon in a number of chamber groups and orchestras, and have fun composing and arranging music.
